From Metagovernment - Government of, by, and for all the people
Open source governance and related ideas of direct democracy through Web 2.0 technologies are rapidly emerging. As these concepts are explored, numerous groups are forming, each with various approaches. So far, these groups are each concerned with the politics of individual national governments.

The following projects contain elements similar to the Metagovernment project. Most of them are what Demoex calls "mixdemocracy," a blend of direct democracy and representative democracy; while the Metagovernment project is an attempt at direct open source governance without any intermediary.

Australia
- Senator On-line (see also Senator On-line on Wikipedia) - Ran 10 candidates for senate in 2007; running again in 2009. Platform is defined by web polls.
Canada
- Votorola - A software for hosting open, continuous elections. Represented on list by Michael Allan.
Israel
- MyVote.org.il - See User:Talyaron
Italy
- Internetcrazia (English translation) - Italian party advocating direct democracy through the Internet.
Russia
- Mexnap (English translation) - Russian project allowing citizens to vote on existing laws. Represented on list by Dmitri.
South Africa
- Progressive Initiative - Party running in 2009 election, listing "electronic direct democracy" as one of their initiatives, and quoting Metagovernment's Basic principles.
Spain
- Democracia Directa Digital (English translation) - Political "anti-party" attempting to implement direct democracy through the use of new information technologies.
Sweden
- Aktivdemokrati (English FAQ) - See User_talk:Magnusgus
- Demoex (English version; see also Demoex on Wikipedia) - Commission in the local parliament of Vallentuna. Representatives act based on the results of local meetings with constituents.
United Kingdom
- mySociety - Some mySociety Projects:
- TheyWorkForYou tells you everything you could want to know about what your Member of Parliament gets up to in Westminster.
- No10 Petitions Website with over 8m signatures from over 5m unique email addresses, representing something like 10% of the entire UK population.
- WhatDoTheyKnow has been built to help you get information out of government departments and agencies.
- WriteToThem is the only website in the UK you can use to contact any of your elected representatives. Enter a postcode and it'll tell you who all your local representatives are, and a bit about who you should contact for which reasons.
United States
- Democracylab - Consensus-building project with many similarities to Metagovernment. Represented on list by Mark.
- Free Government - Running a candidate for U.S. Congress, maybe several, but not until 2010. Represented on list by Foy.
- Govit - Builds opinion legislation, then asks members to send it on to their representatives. Contacted by Christopher.
- lowercase d - New York City group for direct democracy with web input. See their plan. Represented on list by Olaf.
