Following are ways you can participate in the Metagovernment and Metascore projects. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate.

Participate

Currently, this project is organized as an adhocracy. There are four primary ways to contribute to the Metagovernment project:

Join the Startup Committee

If you wish to contribute to the startup projects for Metascore and Metagovernment, please visit the list server signup page. The Startup Committee consists of the active members of that list server and is organized as an adhocracy, possibly eventually evolving into a formal organization.

When Metascore is stable, the committee will attempt to govern itself using that software (with the list server remaining as a fallback, since the software will be experimental).

  • After joining, please introduce yourself to the list and provide a link to your user page on this wiki if you have it.
  • You are encouraged to familiarize yourself with the list server archive before jumping in with questions and suggestions. However, we know that analyzing the full archive requires a lot of time... reading the project's wiki should be enough with the aid of this map: a list of organized pages by a recommended order.
  • Do not forget to check the Community Portal often, there you will find what things are being done for the project.

Program Metascore

If you are a programmer, consider helping to program a prototype, to help us evaluate different scoring systems. We are using the django framework and python. However, you don't need to be an expert in python or django; if you're familiar with web development or are at least willing to learn, please join the Metascore development list and introduce yourself. The programmers there will get you oriented.

Translate the wiki

The main language of this global project is English, the most spoken idiom up today in the Internet. Unfortunately this restricts the participation of non-English speakers. By translating part of the wiki, you can —at least— permit to those people, interested in this project, inform themselves (and others) about it.

Promote

Additionally, you are encouraged help promote the project and its philosophy by any of the following means:

Web

  • Post about open source governance — If you participate in a web forum or respond to blog posts, write a message about this website and/or about open source governance and web-based direct democracy.

Literature

Everyone is encouraged to create literature or to download this promotional literature and distribute it in legal, ethical means, such as posting it on community bulletin boards or handing out cards in person.

If you create other literature, please contact Ed to have it posted to the promo directory.

Conferences

From time to time, this project is represented at governance and/or technology conferences, as listed on the conferences page. Active members of the startup committee are encouraged to attend such conferences and network and/or speak on behalf of the project and the general goals of open source governance.
